We turned “Should I?” into “Hell yes!” with a scroll-stopping AR hair color experience.

Choosing a new hair color? Kinda terrifying.
Especially when it’s bold, fiery red.

L’Oréal Professionnel wanted to help users see their red-hair era before committing to it IRL. The solution? A slick, instant AR try-on that said:

“Yes, this will look good on you—go for it.”

As Art Director and UX designer, I got to fuse tech, beauty, and confidence into one compact experience.

  • Built a mobile-first try-on journey with Banuba AR

  • Designed all UI, motion, and storytelling touchpoints

  • Translated complex tech (ODS, DM5...) into clean, visual, bite-sized beauty

  • Layered in brand “luxury” with intuitive UX

I didn’t just slap a red filter on and call it a day. This was precision AR that responded to each user’s face shape, hair volume, and tone.

Here’s what I built:

  • Tap to Try-On: Instantly see every iNOA red shade on you, in real-time.

  • Flattering Tones: Each shade optimised for Indian skin tones—no weird orange halos.

  • Selfie Moment: Loved your red? Snap it, save it, show it off.

  • Salon Locator: Ready to go red for real? We help you book your glow-up.

The Design

I kept the UI as chic as the shades—think sleek product carousels, glowy overlays, and confidence-first copy.
This wasn’t about selling hair dye. It was about giving users that “OMG this actually looks amazing” feeling.

Results

Clicks: Over 119,413 clicks achieved on the “Try Now” CTA.

Engagement:

  • “Try Now” engaged 38,000 users with a 32% engagement rate.

  • Page views reached 80,000, achieving a 67% engagement rate.

User Feedback: Positive reception for the visually rich, seamless, and interactive design.

  • Takeaway

For me, this project was a reminder of how powerful AR can be when paired with thoughtful, user-first design. I wasn’t just designing an interface—I was designing confidence. By addressing real user doubts (“Will this shade suit me?”) and creating an experience that felt both magical and effortless, I got to help iNOA Reds own the red hair trend of 2024. Seeing tech, beauty, and emotion come together like this? That’s the kind of creative work I live for.
